Karen has exemplified the spirit of volunteerism by always “stepping up,” and pitching in to help her fellow volunteers. At her first affiliate meeting in Central Florida, she noticed that there were only a handful of volunteers at the meeting. She did not hesitate to sign up to help out.
“I found out about the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in 1999 when my father was diagnosed. When he quickly passed away, I was in disbelief that there was so little being done for this disease. When I received an email saying that the organization was looking for volunteers, I knew I had to do something.”
