“I feel strongly that it's my mission to be an advocate, a voice, because so many pancreatic cancer patients don't get the opportunity to do so. So many wonderful people have come into my life, whom I never would have met otherwise. It fills my heart with joy when new volunteers say ‘I want to become part of this group, and make a difference, like you are!’ Our affiliate has made an impact building awareness, fund raising, and equally important, creating a real community for survivors, families and friends.”
- Maija, sever-year survivor and volunteer

Local Highlights
Awareness Night with the Madison Mallards
While raising awareness for pancreatic cancer, 120 people from the Madison Affiliate, many in purple, watched the Mallards beat the Eau Claire Express. The first pitch was thrown by Matt Miller, a 1 & 1/2 year survivor.

PurpleStride Madison 2013!
PurpleStride Madison 2013 was a wonderful and inspiring day! This year 5K and 2-mile run/walk was hosted at a new venue, Warner Park. Nearly 2,000 participants showed up to turn Madison purple on April 28. Together they raised more than $225,000, greatly surpassing the original goal of $175,000. Needless to say, the event was a huge success!

Madison Affiliate Visits Local Members of Congress
On August 21, 2012 volunteers, led by Barbara Karlen, met with staff members of US Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI) and US Representative Tammy Baldwin to discuss what they can do to help pass the Pancreatic Cancer Research & Education Act (S. 362/H.R. 733). These meetings, done in conjunction with the At Home Challenge, help to keep a spotlight on the importance of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's congressional priorities.

PurpleLight Madison 2012
PurpleLight Madison took place on September 30, 2012 as part of the second annual National PurpleLight Vigil for Hope. This event happened in conjunction with over 50 additional PurpleLight Vigils across the country. It was a wonderful opportunity for family and friends of those touched by pancreatic cancer to come together to gain both comfort and encouragement. Photos will be available at www.purplelight.org.
