“I feel strongly that it's my mission to be an advocate, a voice, because so many pancreatic cancer patients don't get the opportunity to do so. So many wonderful people have come into my life, whom I never would have met otherwise. It fills my heart with joy when new volunteers say ‘I want to become part of this group, and make a difference, like you are!’ Our affiliate has made an impact building awareness, fund raising, and equally important, creating a real community for survivors, families and friends.”

PurpleStride Madison 2013!

PurpleStride Madison 2013 was a wonderful and inspiring day! This year 5K and 2-mile run/walk was hosted at a new venue, Warner Park. Nearly 2,000 participants showed up to turn Madison purple on April 28. Together they raised more than $225,000, greatly surpassing the original goal of $175,000. Needless to say, the event was a huge success!

PurpleLight Madison 2013

Madison went purple on October 27, 2013 for PurpleLight National Vigil for Hope. Family and friends of those touched by pancreatic cancer came together to gain both comfort and encouragement by illuminating purple glow sticks as they heard their loved ones’ names read aloud. Joined by nearly 20,000 participants in more than 80 communities across the country, this marked the largest participation in PurpleLight history and helped kick off National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

Photos will be posted at www.purplelight.org when they are available.

There are many ways you can support the local fight and join other friendly volunteers committed to fighting pancreatic cancer. Whether you have ten minutes or are looking for a more extensive commitment, we have a role for you. Our volunteers focus on several key areas: raising general awareness, media, education and outreach to healthcare professionals, advocacy and fundraising and awareness events. Learn more.

The Madison Affiliate is currently looking to fill the following roles:

  • Event Coordinator: The Event Coordinator works with a Community Outreach Events Manager or Specialist and other Headquarters staff to lead the effort to plan and coordinate the local affiliate’s signature fundraising event benefitting the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network. The goals of each fundraising event are to raise awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer, educate the public about our organization and create a community among those affected by this disease.
  • Affiliate Coordinator - The Affiliate Coordinator leads the affiliate and other core role leaders, while serving as a liaison between local volunteers and staff at our National office.
  • Education & Outreach Coordinator - The Education & Outreach Coordinator leads the effort to create awareness about the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, our Patient & Liaison Services (PALS) program in the local community and within the healthcare professional community.
  • Volunteer Chair - The Volunteer Chair will recruit new people to volunteer with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network in “city”
  • Sponsorship Chair - The Sponsorship Chair works with the affiliate to prospect, cultivate and steward sponsorship and corporate team opportunities to benefit affiliate fundraising events.

To learn more about these positions, or the local effort in particular, please email Regional Affiliate Manager, LaKeisha Thomas, at lthomas@pancan.org.

Together, we can know it, fight it, and end it!
