“I feel strongly that it's my mission to be an advocate, a voice, because so many pancreatic cancer patients don't get the opportunity to do so. So many wonderful people have come into my life, whom I never would have met otherwise. It fills my heart with joy when new volunteers say ‘I want to become part of this group, and make a difference, like you are!’ Our affiliate has made an impact building awareness, fund raising, and equally important, creating a real community for survivors, families and friends.”

PurpleLight Rhode Island 2013

Rhode Island went purple on October 27, 2013 for PurpleLight National Vigil for Hope. Family and friends of those touched by pancreatic cancer came together to gain both comfort and encouragement by illuminating purple glow sticks as they heard their loved ones’ names read aloud. Joined by nearly 20,000 participants in more than 80 communities across the country, this marked the largest participation in PurpleLight history and helped kick off National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.

Photos will be posted at www.purplelight.org when they are available.

PurpleStride Rhode Island 2013

PurpleStride Rhode Island 2013 presented by Ocean State Job Lot was a huge success! We had 1,600 participants, 73 teams, and more than 80 volunteers join us on Sunday, May 5. Together we were able to raise $237,000 for the fight against pancreatic cancer.

We'd like to thank our presenting sponsor, Ocean State Job Lot, along with all of our other sponsors. Your support truly made an impact in the success of this event. We'd also like to thank all of our special guests: Senator Sheldon Whitehouse; Will Gilbert, the event emcee; and Erika Van Pelt.
