At Home Challenge 2012
August 6 – 24, 2012
Members of Congress are home for the month of August. This is a great opportunity to reach them face to face and show them that real people in their districts have been impacted by pancreatic cancer and that we are passionate about passing the Pancreatic Cancer Research & Education Act this year!
Here are three actions you can take during the month of August:
- Meet with your U.S. Senators and/or Representative in their state or district offices. Join an existing meeting that your local Advocacy Coordinator or Community Representative set up (check here), or if none has been scheduled, set up your own meeting (as quickly as possible since Members’ schedules tend to get booked). Click on the button below for step-by-step instructions on how to schedule, conduct and follow up on a district meeting.
- Attend a Town Hall meeting or other public forum where your elected officials will be addressing their constituents and taking questions. Click on the button below for instructions on attending a Town Hall meeting, including how to locate an event in your neighborhood and sample questions to ask at the forum.
- Gain the attention of your members of Congress by sending a letter to the editor of your local newspaper calling on them to pass the bill this year.
For the first two actions of this challenge, we ask that you coordinate your activities with your local affiliate or advocacy leader (if you have one near you). They will be scheduling district meetings, coordinating a presence at Town Halls, and can answer any questions you may have. Click here for a list of existing district meetings (including the organizer’s name and contact info) and click here to find the closest affiliate to you.
