At Home Challenge 2011
August 8 – 31, 2011
Members of Congress are home for the month of August. This is a great opportunity to reach them face to face and show them that real people in their districts have been impacted by pancreatic cancer. Are you ready to take this challenge and tell your elected officials that we’re not going to rest until the Pancreatic Cancer Research & Education Act is passed?
Here are three actions you can take during the month of August:
- Schedule a meeting with your U.S. Representative or Senator in their state or district office. Click here for step-by-step instructions on how to schedule, conduct and follow up on a district meeting. Please note that you are encouraged to contact your Members’ offices as quickly as possible as their schedules tend to get booked.
- Attend a Town Hall meeting or other open forum where your elected officials will be addressing the general public and taking questions. Click here for instructions on attending a Town Hall meeting, including how to locate an event in your neighborhood and sample questions to ask at the forum.
- Drop off an “advocacy packet” to your local congressional office with information about pancreatic cancer and S. 362/H.R. 733. Click here to find the closest office to you and click on the two links below to print out materials. For added impact, attach a “purple spirit” item to the packet, such as a purple flower or balloon. Be creative! (Just don’t spend more than $5 on your item, please.)
For this challenge, we strongly recommend that you coordinate your activities with your local affiliate (if you have one near you). Affiliate leaders will be scheduling district meetings, coordinating a presence at Town Halls, and can answer any questions you may have. They're often in your neighborhoods and are eager to help you. Find yours by clicking here.
No affiliate nearby or have other questions? No problem! Contact us at advocacy@pancan.org or 202-742-6699.
