Sunday, June 16
Arrive in Washington, D.C
Please plan to arrive in Washington, D.C. by Sunday, June 16th, since mandatory training starts on Monday morning.
3:30 PM – 7:00 PM: Advocacy Day Check-In
Stop by the Senate room at the Capitol Hilton to check in and pick up your participant information packets and name badges.
Monday, June 17
Note: Training attendance is mandatory for all Advocacy Day participants, regardless of previous Advocacy Day experience. The mandatory training will take place at the Capital Hilton, located at 1001 16th St NW, in downtown Washington, DC.
7:30 AM – 10:00 AM: Breakfast and Check-In
A full breakfast buffet will be available. Pancreatic Cancer Action Network staff will also be available during this time for you to check in and pick up your participant packets. Please complete check-in prior to attending your first training session this morning.
8:30 AM – 9:30 AM: Orientation Session
An orientation session for newcomers will be offered on Monday morning. Topics will include how to get further involved with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and what to expect during Advocacy Day, with time for questions and answers.
10:00 AM – 4:30 PM: Advocacy Training for All Participants
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will conduct training on everything you need to know to ensure your meetings with your members of Congress are successful.
12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Lunch
Lunch will be served to all attendees between training sessions.
4:30 PM – 5:30 PM: Schedule Distribution
Schedules for your Tuesday meetings on Capitol Hill will be distributed at this time. You will then have the opportunity to meet with other volunteers from your state to network and discuss your meeting strategy.
Tuesday, June 18
7:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Breakfast and Send-Off
Breakfast will be served, and closing remarks will be made. If there have been any changes to your schedules, you will hear about it at this time.
9:00 AM – 5:00 PM: Meetings on Capitol Hill
This is the big day! The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will set up appointments for you to meet with your members of Congress on Capitol Hill. Transportation fare, via Metro, will be provided for each registered participant from the hotel to Capitol Hill.
12:00 PM: Group Photograph
At noon, we will take a group photograph on the steps of the Capitol Building for those who do not have meetings scheduled at this time. PLEASE NOTE: Your meetings should come first! Do not skip a meeting in favor of taking this picture.
IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO NOT BOOK A RETURN FLIGHT THAT LEAVES ON TUESDAY BEFORE 6:30 PM out of Reagan National Airport, or 7:30 PM out of Dulles International or Baltimore Airports.
Dress code: Please plan to wear business casual attire for the training on June 17th and business or business casual attire (with comfortable shoes!) for the meetings with members of Congress on June 18th. Weather during June in DC is variable and may range from 65°F to 90°F, so please make sure to pack an umbrella, clothing for layering, and comfortable shoes.
