A Message from the President and CEO

Our guest columnist this month is U.S. Representative Leonard Lance (R-NJ), who is serving as a co-sponsor of the Pancreatic Cancer Research & Education Act (S.362/H.R. 733), along with U.S. Representative Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI). The three legislators reintroduced the bill in Congress in February of 2011. We remain grateful for their continued support of our cause.

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network

Dear Pancreatic Cancer Action Network Friends:

Know it. Fight it. End it. That will be the rallying cry at the sixth annual Pancreatic Cancer Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. on June 25 and 26, 2012, when hundreds of advocates from across the country will join together on Capitol Hill in an effort to make the fight against pancreatic cancer a higher national priority. Every voice will be critical and I hope you will consider participating if you have not registered yet.

Rep. Lance with New Jersey Affiliate Media Representative Todd Cohen
I had the opportunity to attend Pancreatic Cancer Advocacy Day in 2011 and was honored to meet so many survivors, caregivers, physicians, researchers and others who, like me, are deeply committed to finding a cure for a disease ranked as the nation's fourth leading cause of cancer death. I recall being truly inspired as I witnessed hundreds of people from all over the country coming together to share their personal experiences with this devastating disease and demand a renewed focus on fighting it.

Last year, I agreed to work with my colleague Congresswoman Anna Eshoo (D-CA) to introduce the Pancreatic Cancer Research & Education Act (H.R. 733) with the hope of changing the course of history for this disease. This important legislation seeks to bring a greater focus on pancreatic cancer research by giving scientists the tools and resources they need to develop treatments and hopefully a cure for patients.

Since this bipartisan legislation was introduced, you and other hard-working advocates have done an incredible job reaching out to your members of Congress and encouraging them to join in our efforts to pass this game-changing legislation. With your help, I am pleased to report that more than 220 members of the U.S. House and 43 members of the U.S. Senate are now co-sponsors of our bill.

Rest assured that I will continue advocating for passage of the Pancreatic Cancer Research & Education Act in the Congress. However, I need your help generating additional support for the legislation. You can do this by helping educate your congressional representative about the importance of finding a cure and by participating in Advocacy Day in June. By working together, we can make a difference.

In closing, I am grateful for all your efforts on behalf of H.R. 733 and look forward to working alongside you so that 2012 will be the year we pass this critical legislation. I will be proud to stand with you on June 25 and 26 as we strive to: Know it. Fight it. End it. Together, we will carry this important message loud and clear throughout the halls of Congress.

Best personal wishes,

Leonard Lance
Member of Congress
