EL SEGUNDO, Calif. U.S.A. (Oct. 27,
2004) --- The Pancreatic Cancer
Action Network (PanCAN), the first national patient-based advocacy
organization for the pancreatic cancer community, is hosting the
seventh annual “An Evening with the Stars” gala on
Saturday, Nov. 13, to help raise awareness for pancreatic cancer
and to honor those who make a difference. Pancreatic cancer is
the 4th leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. for men and women.
November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month.
WHAT:
“An Evening With the Stars” black-tie gala hosted by
the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN).

WHO:
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Inc. (PanCAN) is the first
national patient advocacy organization for the pancreatic cancer
community. PanCAN works to focus national attention on the need
to find a cure for pancreatic cancer. The not-for-profit organization,
based in El Segundo, Calif., provides public and professional
education embracing the urgent need for more research, effective
treatments, prevention programs and early detection methods.
AWARDS:
Among those being honored…
- Jay Mohr, film and television star
and host and executive producer of NBC’s hit Last Comic Standing,
will receive PanCAN’s
Jack Benny Humanitarian Award. Jack Benny lost his battle with
pancreatic cancer in 1974. This award was established with his daughter,
Joan Benny, to honor the extraordinary contributions of her father. It
is presented to a member of the entertainment industry whose
professional and personal accomplishments pay tribute to Jack Benny’s
memory.
- Bobbye Sloan, a tireless advocate for cancer awareness
who passed away from pancreatic cancer earlier this year, will
be honored with the Emily Couric Public Service Award. NBA Coach Jerry Sloan
of the Utah Jazz will receive the award on behalf of his
wife. This award is given to an individual or organization that
in its public role exemplifies the dedication to others as seen
in the life of Emily Couric, the former Virginia State Senator
who died of pancreatic cancer. Emily Couric was the sister of
well-known NBC Today Show host Katie Couric.
- The Zeiden Family
and Z Gallerie Siblings Joseph, Carole, and Michael, founders
of Z Gallerie, America’s premier
lifestyle home furnishing and accessory retailer, have been
PanCAN corporate sponsors for the past two years.
