“Bidding For a Cure 2004” in New York City To Raise Awareness of Pancreatic Cancer

4 TH Leading Cause of Cancer Death in the United States for Men and Women

WHAT:“Bidding for a Cure 2004” Benefiting the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Inc. (PanCAN). Event open to the public. The evening will be hosted by Bob Wiltfong of Comedy Central’s Daily Show and will feature a silent auction, live music by the poma-swank, raffles, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, & gift bags.

WHO: The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Inc. (PanCAN) is the first national public-benefit advocacy organization for the pancreatic cancer community. PanCAN works to focus national attention on the need to find a cure for pancreatic cancer. The not-for-profit organization provides public and professional education embracing the urgent need for more research, effective treatments, prevention programs and early detection methods. The 3 rd annual Bidding For a Cure benefit is organized by Wildflower Events’ president and Team Hope New York – Manhattan Coordinator, Lisa Price with the help of a team of passionate volunteers all of whom have been touched by Pancreatic Cancer.

FACTS:

  • Approximately 31,860 people will be diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer this year in the United States and 31,270 people will die.
  • Pancreatic Cancer has the #1 fatality rate of all cancers.
  • Pancreatic Cancer is the #4 cancer killer in the United States amongst both men and women.
  • The 99% mortality rate for pancreatic cancer is the highest of any cancer.
  • No effective early detection methods have been developed, there are minimal treatment options available and very little research is under way due to limited research funding.
