VOLUNTEERS TAKE ACTION FOR PANCREATIC CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
IN NOVEMBER

Men, Women

(Sept 8, 2004) - During Pancreatic Cancer
Awareness Month in November, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network
(PanCAN), celebrities, retailers and volunteers will spread the
word to raise awareness and increase research for pancreatic
cancer, the 4 th leading cause of cancer death in the U.S. for
men and women. PanCAN is the first national patient advocacy
organization for the pancreatic cancer community, including patients,
families, medical researchers and physicians.
An Evening with the Stars
Celebrities
will gather for PanCAN’s seventh annual “An
Evening with the Stars” gala on Saturday, Nov. 13 in Beverly
Hills . The gala raises funds and awareness and honors those who
make a difference. PanCAN will present the Jack Benny Humanitarian
Award to a member of the entertainment industry whose professional
and personal accomplishments pay tribute to the comedian’s
memory. Benny died of pancreatic cancer in 1974.
Retailers Make a Difference
More than 55 Z Gallerie
stores nationwide will donate a portion of sales on Thursday, Nov.
18 to pancreatic cancer research. Shoppers at Z Gallerie, America ’s
premiere lifestyle home furnishing and accessory retailer, will
receive a 15 percent discount off all purchases (excluding furniture)
from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Shoppers at each location will also be eligible to enter and win
a special "Shirley Key" shopping spree. Shirley Zeiden,
mother of the Z Gallerie founders, passed away as a result of pancreatic
cancer in 2002.
Volunteers Spread the Word
PanCAN volunteers
are taking action by hosting awareness and fundraising events nationwide,
contacting local media, and distributing posters and brochures
on resources available to pancreatic cancer patients.
