Targeted Therapy

Targeted therapy is a type of treatment that uses drugs or other substances to identify and attack specific cancer cells without harming normal cells.  Erlotinib (Tarceva®) is a targeted therapy that was approved in combination with gemcitabine (Gemzar®) in November 2005 for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Most other targeted therapies are still in clinical studies.  Once researchers better understand the growth and spread of tumors, they will be better able to identify patients who may benefit from targeted therapies.

Below you will find links to information about some targeted therapies currently being studied for the treatment of pancreatic cancer.
