Pancreatic Cancer Action Network receives largest single gift since the organization started

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is pleased to announce that it has received the single largest gift in its history, $500,000 from the Blum Kovler Foundation.

The Foundation’s extraordinary gesture will bolster the twin pillars of our mission—our public policy effort to secure increased federal funding for pancreatic cancer research and our private program to nurture new science. Publicly and privately funded research are both crucial to the quest for a cure. This gift will help Pancreatic Cancer Action Network increase its impact in both areas.

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network will recognize the Foundation’s singular act of generosity by creating the Blum Kovler Foundation New Opportunities Initiative. The Initiative will provide a permanent rubric for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s most innovative projects and programs. The ability to respond quickly to new challenges is a hallmark of our philosophy. The Blum Kovler Initiative will showcase our work at its most dynamic.

Like so many Pancreatic Cancer Action Network supporters, the Foundation’s reasons for giving are rooted in a family’s personal experience with pancreatic cancer. Marjorie Blum Kovler died of the disease in 1970 and it is her two sons, Jonathan and Peter, who are directors of the Foundation. Back then, little attention was paid to pancreatic cancer; information about it was hard to come by and patients largely had to fend for themselves. The Kovler family has been stalwart in helping Pancreatic Cancer Action Network tear down this wall of silence.

Pancreatic Cancer Action Network was born of a faith in the power of people working together for the improvement of all. We are proud to uphold this ideal and grateful to have the support of such a devoted benefactor as we pursue our vision of a world without pancreatic cancer.
